The Nordic network on media and religion

The Nordic Network on Media and Religion brings together researchers interested in the increased interconnectedness between media, religious activities and beliefs, and broader cultural dynamics. The network consists of researchers from the Nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland) who study various aspects of media and religion.

The researchers come from different fields such as media studies, religious studies (including sociology of religion) and the social sciences. A variety of methods, approaches and theoretical perspectives are represented.

This network is a continuation of the Nordforsk funded Nordic Network for the Mediatization of Religion and Culture 2006-2010. In 2010, the network changed its name to The Nordic Network on Media and Religion, to better reflect the heterogeneous views of network-members perspectives on the theory of 'the mediatization of religion'.  The Sigtuna Foundation has graciously offered to fund  the Nordic Network for Media and Religion's annual seminars for three years: 2010-2013.

At present, the primary activity of the network is to organize an annual seminar for its members in order to discuss and continue to develop the emerging research field of media and religion. International scholars are invited as keynote speakers to all the Nordic Network on Media and Religion seminars. The next seminar will be held in October 2013, and will focus on methodological approaches to the study of media and religion. (The program will be posted here, once it is finalized).
